Tuning Fork

A tuning fork is an acoustic resonator in the form of a two-pronged fork with the metal prongs (tines) made of elastic metal. It resonates at a specific constant pitch when set vibrating after being striked, and emits a pure musical tone after waiting a moment to allow the high overtones to die out.

Tuning forks are used by medical practitioners to assess a patient’s hearing and as part of the peripheral nervous system examination.
